Ash Wednesday 5th March 2014

Today we set off on our lenten journey. Our goal: to encounter the Lord. Pope Benedict said: ‘Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.’ We seek a renewed encounter with God’s live. Knowing God’s love  makes us not only fully human and we witness to a new humanity. God takes us beyond and outside ourselves. WE learn to live not so much for ourselves but for others and for him who dies for us.

Lord god Help me discover that the source and inspiration fo all our evangelization is the usre knowledge of your love poured into our hearts

Lent can be misunderstood, Instead of a time of joy, transformation and renewal it is often perceived as one of doom and gloom, engendering a rather pessimistic and negative outlook. Pope Francis alludes to this when he said that there are Christians who lives as Lent withour Easter. Of course, it is true, examination of conscience, repentance and sorrow for sin are very much part of the season, it is after all a penitential season. But these are great blessings and can be, or should be, the source of great joy and happiness in our lives.

Lord create in me a lenten joy rooted in the sure and certain knowledge of your live, mercy and forgiveness.
